Hey people: It’s 2015. Almost half a century after the Stonewall riots and Harvey Milk.
Step by step, changes have been accomplished in some parts of the world. Awareness about queer issues has been raised, gay marriage has even been legalized in some countries and it looks like things could get better. But all over the world, people are still being stigmatized, beaten up, imprisoned or even killed for being queer.
It must get much more better. And it could get much more better if only haters wouldn’t constantly try to break down all our efforts to make things better.
It’s 2015 and we still have to hear all that homophobic, conservative, intolerant crap about queer people.
It’s 2015 and ignorant hate speech is still being spread.
Hate speech is not harmless. It’s more than words.
Hate speech encourages violence.
Hate speech is a danger for people and for society.
We can’t stand it anymore.
It’s time. Time for a strong statement. Time to act. Time to make things move. Time to say it’s enough. Time to say: you haters, just shut the f*ck up.
We would prefer to have another solution than telling anyone to shut up. We would prefer friendly messages, love songs, cheesy poems and kisses. We would rather not have to do this. But sometimes, being nice and friendly doesn’t solve the problem.
We tried many things. We tried friendliness. We tried education, too. We tried constructive debate, we tried arts, we tried to spread the word in any way we could.
But whatever we do, it’s always the same: haters won’t stop hating.
So today, we are raising our voice against haters, whoever they are.
And we are inviting everyone to join us.
Let’s build a movement.
Let’s all stand together and say that we won’t tolerate hate speech.
Let’s all shout out loud: SHUT UP HATERS!
Join the campaign!
